Rebecca Capuccini is part of the Top of the City Community Garden and joined Damien this morning for a quick discussion about the project.

About two years ago, a group of people took over the space which had previously been a landfill and turned it into a community garden, really highlighting the power of the people.

Rebecca and the others involved are excited that people know about the garden now because they had to keep it on the down-low for a while because of the pandemic.

The garden is officially open from Thursday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm.

Rebecca says everything the group imagined happening has happened.

They have an art gallery and even got a stage built by the National Lottery.

There is a coffee trailer there and a variety of different workshops and markets take place.

Every Saturday, Ballybeg Greens hosts a market where they sell vegetables, herbs, and more.

Volunteers are rostered every week to keep the garden running.

Community Garden location

The Community Gardens are situated on Carthages Avenue behind Barrack Street.

Tramore can be seen from the garden, with Rebecca saying it has one of the most beautiful views in Waterford.

Furry friends are more than welcome once they are on a lead.

People are invited to sit and enjoy the views, relax and read, or walk around the garden.
