Coach, podcaster and personal trainer Pat Divilly is no stranger to many, having ran his own gym in Galway for a number of years as well helping as people in many areas of personal development.

Speaking on Deise Today, Pat said he's now turned his attention to the emotional aspects of fitness and how we treat ourselves, with his new book The Fit Mind.

He says it's about "having a toolbox to manage the thoughts in our heads."  Pat tells Damien that part of what he does is try to help people steer clear of the negativity bias, where we seek out the flaws in ourselves. He says it's particularly important not to beat ourselves up if we can't stick with fitness routines, nutritional plans or commitments.

This book and the work that I'm doing is more about accepting ourselves and making peace with ourselves, rather than beating ourselves up when you have a slip-up... can you be curious rather than judgemental.. and learn from our experiences

Pat and Damien also discussed whether or not people are fundamentally capable of changing. Have a listen back to their chat through this link on this podcast.
