Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has condemned the incident in Newtownmountkennedy in Co Wicklow in which a Garda member was injured.

Protests have been staged at a premises in River Lodge, known as Trudder House, which has been earmarked to accommodate asylum seekers.

On Thursday, gardaí at the site came “came under attack” in an incident which they said developed as a result of workers, contracted to carry out lawful employment on the site, entering the site.

A spokesperson from the Garda Press Office confirmed six people were arrested during the incident and a number of trespassers were also identified on and removed from the site.
