Twenty- year-old adventurer Adam Sweeney from Dunmore East last week made a successful summit attempt of Ama Dablam in the Himalayas!
Adam was part of an Irish team made up of seven mountaineers that were striving to be the first all Irish team to summit one of the Himalayas most challenging peaks, which stands at 6,812 metres.
The team met with brutally cold weather on the ascent, and Adam was the only member of the team to make it successfully to the summit!
Adam made a successful summit last year of South Americas highest mountain Aconcagua, at 6961 metres, but says that Ama Dablam was a far more challenging peak to summit, with technical climbing and sub-zero temperatures.
He plans to make a summit attempt of Everest in 2026, which would make him the youngest Irish person to do so.
He is looking forwards to getting home to Dunmore East to celebrate Christmas, and catch up with his studies at SETU!
