Maurice Barron joined Maria on Déise Today to tell her the story about how he ended up in the White House meeting President Joe Biden.

Maurice's daughter Ava is a year in remission after battling a very rare form of cancer, that she was diagnosed with when she was 13 months old.

He said the experience took a huge emotional told on him and his wife Candice, and to deal with it he began to write.

Inspired by poet Amanda Gorman who spoke at the inauguration of President Biden, Maurice began writing poetry about Ava. This love of writing ultimately led Maurice to write a letter to the President, to whom he felt an affinity. He he sent the letter both physically, and electronically in an abridged version.

Maurice never thought the letter would reach President Biden, but lo and behold, he received a letter last week, inviting him to The White House on February 2nd, to meet on Joe Biden's new proposal, "Cancer Moonshot" (to end cancer as we know it).
