WATERFORD Senator John Cummins says his focus is firmly on winning back a Dail seat for Fine Gael in Waterford.
Speaking on Deise Today this morning (Friday), the city-based senator and twice Mayor, said he firmly hopes to be in the running for his party - but doesn't know if he'll be the only local candidate.
"I honestly don't know if there'll only be one candidate," he told Damien Tiernan.
"That's a decision that will be made by party headquarters and the party locally will decide on who those candidates are. I'm not too worried about how many are on the ticket; my focus is on winning a seat back for the party. I think that's how we can best achieve results."
John Cummins also spoke of his vision for the city and county - that Waterford's population will grow by 50%, vast projects like the north quays and university will come to fruition and there'll be a resultant huge boost for local jobs.
He also spoke of his continued passion for politics, saying for as long as he has the honour of serving the people of Waterford, he will do so to the best of his ability.
