Harry Flynn, one of the longest-serving teachers in the country, spoke to Damien about his life and career.
The St. John's Park native started school in Scoil Lorcain in 1960 and started teaching there in July 1975, at the age of 19.
In 1986, he became principal. He was in this role for 35 years but has worked at the school for a total of 47 years.
He is going to retire at the end of June and suspects that he will feel emotional when it happens.
Teaching
Speaking to Damien on Déise Today, Harry told Damien that in the early days he struggled to get the kids to accept that he was their teacher, because he knew most of the parents.
He began teaching third class pupils at the school, and two years later was tasked with the challenge of sixth class.
He describes his time at Scoil Lorcain as a "wonderful journey" and says he has enjoyed every minute.
Teachers and pupils
Damien also spoke to some of the staff and pupils about their memories and opinions of their principal.
Harry's daughter has been a teacher at the school for three years. At the start, she found working with her dad odd, but now she loves that he is there.
His grandson is also at the school. He is a student and values that his grandfather treats every pupil the same.
One second-class child shared his favorite memories of Mr.Flynn, which included funny jokes, being rewarded with stickers and treats, and Easter traditions.
