A night of music and celebration is taking place at the Greenway Manor in June for a Waterford mother of four who is battling brain cancer.

32 year old Jamie Phelan was diagnosed 15 months ago with an extremely rare and aggressive brain tumour.

Following an online fundraising campaign late last year which raised over €220,000 in eight days, Jamie was in a position to travel to Germany for specialist treatment.

She receives both immunotherapy, and a vaccine treatment tailor-made to match her DNA, designed to stop the growth of cancer cells.

A recent scan has confirmed that the cancer has stabilised, and speaking to Damien on Déise Today, Jamie's friend Teresanne O'Reilly said this is thanks to incredible generosity shown through the fundraising campaign:

"This is all down to the people who donated, you have now prolonged this woman's life and we are so grateful," she said.

Teresanne said that while the treatment is a huge commitment, Jamie is physically well at present.

More fundraising is needed in order for Jamie to continue with this life-lengthening treatment, which is how the idea for the night at the Greenway Manor came about.
