A Tramore woman has criticised local bus services  after a number of evening services failed to turn up this weekend.

Cliodhna Doyle and her family waited over two hours for a bus from Waterford City to Tramore to arrive.

No bus arrived as a result of what Bus Eireann has flagged as staff issues.

Speaking to Damien on Déise Today Cliodhna said she paid €26 for a taxi instead, and that these "no shows" are by no means a once off:

"It happened again yesterday and it's been happening for a while. It's not good enough that you're sitting or standing waiting for a bus, and it just doesn't come along," she said.

Bus Eireann replied with apologies to Cliodhna's tweet.

Damien was also joined on the show by Green Party TD Marc O'Cathasaigh who said service shortages are not acceptable.

He says this weekend will do little to strengthen people's confidence in public transport.

Deputy O'Cathasaigh said he met with Stephen Kent, the CEO of Bus Eireann recently, to see if the frequency of buses in the area could be improved

"I'm a frequent user of the service myself so I'm not talking through my hat on this. I'm on the 360 quite regularly, I want it (the frequency) dropped to 20 minutes so people have much less of a wait time for the next bus to turn up," he told Damien.

He said it's a staffing issue with Bus Eireann, and that he's been engaging with both the company and unions on this. However, he said the most important component in this situation is the customer.
