There has been a huge outpouring of shock and anger following the murder of 23 year old Ashling Murphy in County Offaly on Wednesday.

The primary school teacher was attacked while out jogging along the Grand Canal in Tramore at approximately 4pm. She died at the scene.

A man who was arrested by Gardai investigating the murder of Ashling has been released without charge and  is no longer a suspect in the case. Gardai have renewed their appeal for any information on a Falcon Storm mountain bike with straight handle-bars and yellow/ green front forks.

A number of vigils are being held in Waterford today and tomorrow, to honour Ashling's memory. More here.  

Over the past number of days on WLR, we've heard the voices of women who've given their thoughts on gender-based violence.

Claire Coughlan is manager of Oasis House Women's Refuge in Waterford. She says educating society about how to act towards women is key.

Damien then heard from Waterford Councillor Mary Roche. She said that incidences of violence against women are way too common.

"When we talk about this we certainly do not mean all men. To the extent that it shouldn't have to be said. But nonetheless, the abuse of women is pervasive. It happens far too much"
