His Olympics dream may have ended in Thailand but it was a true hero's welcome home for Kelyn Cassidy to Ballybeg yesterday evening!
Family, friends, neighbours and supporters gathered to give a big welcome home to the Waterford boxer who has done his home county, and Ireland, proud.
The light heavyweight saw his Paris Olympics dream end last week when he went down on a 3-2 split decision to a Spanish opponent in the final Olympic qualifier in Thailand.
It was a devastating end for the young boxer who had enjoyed two wins in Bangkok and was hopeful.
Yesterday (Tues) evening, a surprise 'homecoming' was arranged for Kelyn outside his home in Priory Lawn.
Damien Tiernan went along for WLR and spoke to Kelyn's parents and other family - as well as the surprised boxer himself as he arrived back home!
