The sad news emerged yesterday (Tuesday) of the death of well-known Waterford entertainer and historian Sean Murphy after a short illness.

Sean, from Mahon Bridge, Kilmacthomas, was a fount of knowledge on local history but was perhaps best known as one of the founder members of 'Bachelors in Trouble' comedy act with Tony Coffey.

The 'Bachelors in Trouble' - who became nationally known and recognised and even appeared on the The Late Late Show -  were formed from a local drama group in 1989 to film and record stories from the Real Ireland.

But their stories - as bachelor brothers Jack and Tom Coffey -  proved so popular that they made a 30-year career from their comedy and music act.

Sean was also a tireless campaigner for the Irish Kidney Association.

He and three of his four children had kidney transplants due to a hereditary kidney condition called MPGN.

On this morning's (Wednesday's) Deise Today, tributes poured in for Sean from across the city and county from the many people whose lives he touched through his comedy and more.

His Bachelors in Trouble 'partner in crime' Tony Coffey also joined Damien on air for a chat about his good friend - and to recall many, many good, fun memories from their heydey.
