The fallout from this year's Academy Awards has been talked about all over the world - with Will Smith slapping host Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's hair.

Jada, has suffered from alopecia since 2018 - with Rock referring to her as GI Jane, a character played by Demi Moore in 1997 - a film in which Moore sported a shaved head.

The aftermath has led to a wealth of debate worldwide, with Smith, who won Best Lead Actor just minutes later, heralded by some and criticised by many.

One woman who has experienced alopecia first-hand is Joyce O'Carroll from Wigworld, based in Waterford. She spoke with Damien Tiernan on Deise Today this morning. Alopecia is a medical condition.

Joyce says:

"It can be quite a sensitive subject and the Oscars is a global show, with someone speaking about someone's wife. I don't agree with hitting someone, but I can see how it can happen. Hair comes as quick as it can go, it's not something for people to joke about. Would you joke about someone having a prostetic arm or leg?".
