Aaron, who grew up in Galway City is a recovered addict. He opened up to Damien about how it all started when he was a pre-teen, starting with drink and moving onto cannabis.
He was fostered at age 14 and gives huge credit to his foster parents who helped to teach and shape him. However, Aaron told Damien that the addiction had already set in at that stage.
By the time Aaron was a young teenager, he had developed a serious drink and drug addiction, moving from party drugs to heroin. He describes how he felt on drugs, and how heroin in particular took the every day stresses of life away from him.
Aaron spoke to Damien about experiences of overdose, rehabilitation and relapse,
For me, my experiences with overdoses were, you go into this blackness and you don't realise what's happening.. and then you wake up in an ambulance if you're lucky enough.
Following treatment, Aaron has done many things with his life including a course in child psychology, and a 'train the trainer course.' His main aim is to be a fully qualified counselling psychologist.
