Paul Edmondson is a founder member of the Waterford Writers' Group. He's had his first book published, Great Spirit of Yosemite: The Story of Chief Tenaya. It tells the story of Yosemite, California at the time of the Gold Rush – around the 1850s – and depicts the struggles of the resident, indigenous population living in this area at that time and their ultimate fate, set against the backdrop of actual historical events. Ted and Mary O'Regan were a couple who were gave huge support to the arts in Waterford, and as a result, a bursary was launched in their honour by the local arts community. Martina Collender is one of four recipients of this year's O'Regan bursaries; the money will help her have two of her previous plays published in book form. She's also writing a play with Waterford Youth Arts, which will be staged in August. And as if that wasn't enough, Martina was also shortlisted for a BBC spoken word award!
