Works begin today at Carroll's Cross - expected to last three months

N25 Roadworks at Carroll's Cross, a collision blackspot, began today and are expected to last for around three months.

The works will be in place from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Traffic management and a stop/go system will be in place and motorists are asked to approach with caution.

€1.25  million euro is to be spent on the scheme, which includes traffic calming islands, reduction of the width of the carriageway to 10 metres, public lighting, enhanced road signage, markings and kerbed hard shoulders.

Locals and politicians have long been campaigning for a change in layout at the Carroll's Cross junction, following a series of crashes, one fatal.

In July 2019, 75 year-old Oliver Kirwan from Kilmacthomas lost his life following an accident at the junction.

Waterford Councillors were informed last year by senior engineer Gabriel Hynes that the works would go ahead, a decision that was broadly welcomed. More here.
