Water issues in West Waterford are continuing to be brought forward to local Councillors representing the Dungarvan Lismore area.

Fine Gael Cllr Niamh O'Donovan spoke to WLR on the issue which has yet to be resolved according to local residents in Lismore.

"Where do you start? It's such a difficult one for a local Councillor because you can't just ring someone and get it fixed," she said.

In September, locals organised a protest directed towards Uisce Éireann in regards to water supply.

O'Donovan, who was elected as a Cllr for the first time in 2024 was unable to hide her disbelief that the issue had yet to be resolved.

"This is going on years and years. And I just can't believe we're still in a situation in Lismore where the water supply is just so difficult with leaks, low pressure and just constant issues."

The Modeligo Cllr criticised the fact that in 2024, water supply could not be guaranteed for the people of Lismore.

"In this day and age, you would imagine that water supply is a given. And when we brought it up in a workshop with Uisce Éireann, we were told there's actually plenty of water in Lismore."

"That felt like a slap in the face," she remarked.

She says that issues are arriving from concerned residents on a regular basis.

"Nearly every day now there's something coming from Lismore with water supply."

But the Fine Gael Cllr stated that all Councillors who represent the Dungarvan Lismore area are going to keep the issue relevant.

"It's not for want of trying from the local councillors. And we're going to keep advocating and keep making as much noise and try to get these issues sorted."

O'Donovan concluded by stating the ramifications the issue may have in regards to new developments in the area.

"It's a huge issue if you are looking at new housing developments. We need to make sure that there's water supplies available for these developments."
