Water service workers are on strike in 10 local authorities today - including Waterford City and County Council.
The Unite trade union says it wants a guarantee that staff being moved from councils to Uisce Éireann will keep their public service status.
The strike action will involve more than 100 Unite members engaging in a 24-hour withdrawal of labour.
Pickets are in place at various locations in Waterford, including outside The Menapia building on The Mall and in Tramore and Dungarvan.

Speaking to WLR News outside the Adamstown water treatment plant in Kilmeaden, worker Tom Morrissey outlined their objectives.
"The LGMA (Local Government Management Agency) are refusing to speak with us. Unite members voted against the framework document which was released but Uisce Eireann are going ahead with it.
He added: "We're requesting that the LGMA talk to Unite but they're refusing to do so at the moment. That's what this strike is about."

Tom says they have received huge support from colleagues and the public.
"Nobody wants to be here on strike," he said.
"We're hoping this will be sorted sooner rather than later."
