Across the South East, Waterford has returned the highest figures of homelessness.

That's according to the latest report from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Recent figures have shown that 81 adults in Waterford have been identified as homeless during a one-week period.

Children were not factored into these statistics.

Additionally, the figures recorded are not considered to be a full and accurate picture of homelessness in Waterford as those couch-surfing, staying with family, or not presenting in emergency accommodation were not considered in the figures.

Statistics are published by the Department on a monthly basis to highlight how many homeless people are accessing emergency accommodation run by housing authorities during a specific week.

Additionally, the report revealed that during the week of 18-24 of September, 51 adults were recorded as having accessed emergency accommodation in Wexford, followed by 45 in Tipperary and 42 in Kilkenny.
