Waterford ranks second last nationally for availability of public EV charging network for zero emission vehicles.
Recent analysis by Geotab, has revealed that Waterford ranks twenty-fifth nationally in terms of availability of EV charging infrastructure.
With 718 Battery Electric Vehicles sold in the county over the past ten years, Waterford has one charger for approximately 26 such vehicles in the county according to the report.
This puts Waterford near the bottom of the table, just ahead of Meath.
Kerry comes out best with one EV charger for every six vehicles sold in the county.
Charging anxiety appears to have been a factor in the slow adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles, with the public opting for hybrid vehicles for a sense of security.
The Government has announced its National Road EV Charging Network Plan with a commitment to have recharging stations every 60 kilometres.
