The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is asking the people of Waterford to donate blood. The service is holding clinics this week and next week in the Woodlands Hotel on Dunmore Road.

Operations director of the Service, Paul McKinny says hospitals are using a lot of blood as they are now trying to catch up with procedures that were delayed or canceled because of the pandemic. He said they would normally have seven days of stock in their blood bank but are currently sitting on five and a half days, which is low. He said they are concerned given the fact that there are two bank holidays next week.

He said since the pandemic they have put in an appointment system to ensure that people feel comfortable in their clinics.  Those who wish to donate are asked to wear masks.  Mr. McKinny said while they will take walk in's they do ask the public first and foremost to make an appointment. The number is 1800222111.

The clinics will be held on the  7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th and 16th of March. They will run each day from 3.45 pm to 8 pm.
