Waterford will receive €132,500 for the development of outdoor recreational facilities throughout the county.
This investment is part of a new five-year strategy with Coillte which is designed to boost rural tourism. The funding will develop the outdoor recreation facilities in Waterford that Coillte provides across its recreational sites.
As part of this funding announcement, €80,000 will go towards the reinforcement of an unstable embankment at Crough Wood, as well as the re-opening of a trail.
A further €4000 is being provided for the general maintenance of the walkways at Crough Wood.
€52,500 is being provided for maintenance work and upgrades to some of Waterford’s other popular outdoor amenities.
These works will include development of trails, cycleways, play areas, upgrading of car parking and toilet facilities to help manage the growing number of visitors.
It's hoped this funding will help provide a boost to outdoor tourism and rural communities in Waterford.
