Waterford Minister of State Mary Butler says she is "deeply disappointed" with comments made in the Dáil this week about Waterford Airport.

Junior Transport Minister James Lawless likened the business case to buying 'a pig in a poke' when responding to Waterford Independent TD Matt Shanahan.

In response, his Fianna Fáil party colleague Mary Butler said in a statement:

“I am deeply disappointed with the phrase Minister Lawless used in the Dáil when answering questions on the Waterford Airport runway extension on Thursday.

My personal belief is that it certainly is a viable business case. I have strongly advocated for it in recent months along with my government colleagues.

The cut and thrust of politics and the heat of debate can lead to throwaway remarks. I believe now is the time for cool heads and I will continue to work with all stakeholders to secure this necessary funding."
