Tramore-based MEP Grace O'Sullivan has accused the European People's Party (EPP) of skulduggery and unethical voting.

This comes as a vote on Nature Restoration failed to pass within the European Committee of the European Parliament.

The vote was split down the middle with 44 committee members for and 44 against.

Continuing negotiations on a proposed Nature Restoration Bill will depend on the EPP.

Speaking earlier on Déise Today, she says people need to come together for the future of the Earth.

"They walked out on the last stage of the negotiations to get a European Parliament position on this legislation, which they have been negotiating on for a year.

"In the last stages, they just walked out. We have to get legislation over the line. Sometimes it's not exactly perfect, but sometimes you find a compromising position and you push forward for the greater good."

Grace continued." There will be negotiations as long as the EPP comes back to the table. By and large, the people of Ireland and the citizen's assembly called for a strong restoration law.

"What we put into the legislation is critically important, and we would have a full funding mechanism.

"Any farmer who wanted to opt-in would receive payment for that. There's huge flexibility in the legislation as it stands, but if we don't get on with it right away, we are losing critical time."
