Marking your valuables is an effective way to ensure they will be returned to you in the event of a burglary, according to Waterford Gardaí.
They are asking people to write their Eircode on their property as it makes reuniting stolen property a lot more straightforward.
Tramore Garda Justin Shelly has said that using a UV pen is the best way to mark property because it cannot be seen but is still there.
Your Eircode is linked to your home address making it easy to determine the owner.
"The idea is that you would mark TVs, cameras, appliances, game consoles, smartphones, tools, using a UV pen and the idea is to use your Eircode," he said.
Garda Shelly also suggests making a register of your valuables.
You can download a document via the An Garda Síochána website that allows you to itemise any expensive property you may own.
