Gardaí are investigating a spate of thefts from cars in Waterford recently.
Three vehicles were broken into over the course of four days, between Friday the 20th and Tuesday the 24th of January.
A wallet was stolen from a car in Newtown, and another was stolen from a van in Roanmore Crescent.
In the third incident, cash and three pairs of sunglasses were taken from a car that was parked on Philip Street in the city.
Portlaw Garda, Mark Gavin says you're more likely to have your vehicle broken into in your own driveway than anywhere else.
"There's more than a third of all vehicles broken into in residential areas that have been left unlocked by the owner," Garda Gavin told a recent episode of WLR's Waterford Garda Watch.
"So, 37% of all vehicles broken into are in residential areas - driveways being the most common location for these thefts.
"Over 50% of these thefts happen overnight, between midnight and 7am in the morning.
The items most commonly stolen from these vehicles are electronics, jewellry, cash, tools, power tools, and handbags.
"We are just asking people to bear in mind, wherever you park your car or vehicle, take your property with you," Garda Gavin said.
"Ensure that your car is locked, alarmed and parked in a safe location, and store your keys safely away from windows and letterboxes in the home."
