Waterford Gardaí are among the 13,000 other members of An Garda Síochána who are debuting their brand new uniform.

It is only the third time a formal change has been made to the Garda uniform. The change, which came into effect at 7 this morning, has come during the 100th anniversary year of the founding of An Garda Síochána.

Gardas, Sergeants, and Inspectors across 560 stations are wearing the new look which incorporates elements such as durability, protection, and functionality.

The uniform consists of a two-tone soft shell jacket, two-tone waterproof jacket, Garda blue polo shirt, operational trousers, and practical base layers.

Apart from the cap which will remain the same, this is the first time the uniform will display the Garda Crest.

The change is a result of front-line Gardaí wanting a new, practical, and operational uniform. This was addressed in the Garda Cultural Audit in 2018.

The uniform is described as being designed "by Garda members, for Garda members."

Stock Images of the new look are published on the Garda Website here.
