Waterford Dog Shelter has reported today that it is at 90% capacity.
In a statement issued to WLR News this lunchtime, Waterford Council says an increase has been noticed in the number of larger breeds straying and being reported.
Looking at breeds such as lurchers, the Council says: "These breeds have more specific requirements i.e. they need more space / exercise / secure enclosed area and as a result, these larger breeds take longer to rehome."
Members of the public who are interesting in rehoming a stray dog are asked to contact Waterford City & County Council on 0818 10 20 20 during office hours to arrange an appointment.
