Waterford Crystal Leisure Centre has sold for almost a million euro.

The building on the Cork Road has a 25 metre pool, two gyms, a spinning room, bar, cafe, and function hall, among other features.

The complex was originally developed for employees of Waterford Crystal and their families and was then purchased by a former Crystal employee.

Speaking to WLR News this morning, John Rohan of Sherry Fitzgerald John Rohan confirmed the leisure centre's sale.

"We have sold Waterford Crystal Leisure Centre to a Chinese family based in Dublin," John said.

"The guide price was €1million and we got close enough to it.

"The family have advised us that they are going to continue [the centre] as it is at the moment.

"Pat Rockett, who was the vendor of it, is moving onto other business interests and he wishes the new people the best of luck."

Pat and Jean Rockett purchased the complex out of receivership 10 years ago, in 2013 but took the decision a couple of years ago to sell it.

"It was a hard sale," John Rohan explained. "We had a number of different parties interested in it and it fell through a few times.

"But we were lucky enough in the end to sell it to this family, who are excited about coming to Waterford.

"... In time they'll make a decision about what they are going to do [with the centre]."

The listing of the centre garnered quite a bit of interest because of its history and the nostalgic link for those associated with Waterford Crystal.

"All over Ireland," John continued, "when there were people looking at it from different parts of the country, they knew it. They knew where it was. They knew the history of it.

"They knew the value of the swimming pool, the leisure centre - all that was there.

"So it is a really recognised property in Waterford and well-known."
