Waterford Council is taking anti-social behaviour very seriously.
That's according to Director of Housing, Ivan Grimes.
Mr Grimes was responding to calls from West Waterford councillors for an anti-social behaviour workshop.
He says tenants are Garda vetted and there are protocols in place to try and avoid potential conflicts:
"We do take anti-social behaviour issues very seriously. I would point out that, before any tenant is allocated, they are subject to Garda vetting so we would get a report on any criminal convictions that any of the tenants would have and we do actively try to manage tenants once they are in place to avoid anti-social behaviour or to deal with it."
Issues of anti-social behaviour have been raised on numerous occasions around the county.
Director of Housing, Ivan Grimes assured councillors that a meeting will take place:
"We will be arranging a workshop with the local Gardaí and with yourselves at some stage, but I think it's been referenced earlier in the meeting that there are quite a number of workshops coming up in the next four to six weeks. We'll try to organise something after that."
According to a section titled 'Anti-Social Behaviour' on Waterford City and County Council's website, the council says it is "committed to reducing anti-social behaviour in houses and estates where council tenants behave in such a way."
It explains that this kind of behaviour includes the following:
- Drug dealing
- Violence
- Damage to property
- Threats and intimidation
- General disturbances
- Noise
