A Kilmacthomas councillor has reiterated his call for wardens on the Waterford Greenway.

Ger Barron believes the deployment of wardens along the route would improve safety and help tourists.

This comes amid ongoing reports of issues along the amenity, including speeding cyclists,

However, he says he hasn't had a favourable reaction from Council officials to his suggestions.

"I intend to raise it again, maybe in a form of a motion. This should be a friendly agent who would say 'Look you're going too fast there' and stuff like that."

His concerns come regarding cyclists who travel too fast on the Waterford Greenway.

"There has been one or two small incidents where people have had an injury on it. It makes sense for people to be safe and to feel on it. This is one way we could overcome it without too much difficulty."

He brought the idea up initially when the Greenway idea was being developed.

"My idea has always been that they would have a visible presence, I would like a high visibility type of person there."
