Water fountain in Waterford not set to return

Two prominent fountains in Waterford City have still not been fixed.

Councillor Mary Roche sought an update on the two features at this month's Metropolitan District Council meeting.

She began by seeking an update on the fountain in the People's Park.

Mary: "Even if there could be something like a pond put in there and a very simple something, we aren't looking for the Trevi fountain there."

She also referred to the fountain in John Roberts Square, stating it has functioned in previous years as more of an advertising board than anything else.

Niall Kane from Waterford Council Environment Department confirmed that responses to revised designs have been received.

Waterford Council are currently in the process of reviewing these with the aim of restoring the fountain in the People's Park to its former glory.

However in reference to the fountain in John Roberts Square, he had different news.

"There was effectively no fountain there when we went to investigate so we weren't able to put anything there."
