A Waterford mother is pleading with Waterford Council to rehouse her and her two children.

Jaye Gallagher lives in the Mountsuir Apartment Complex in Waterford City, which has been at the centre of controversy in recent years.

She is also a carer to her mother who is bound to a wheelchair.

Several apartments are infested with mold, with council tenants being rehoused to other properties in recent years following complaints.

Waterford City and County Council took over ownership of several apartments in February 2020.

The council also confirmed to WLR that "it is the responsibility of Waterford City and County Council to maintain the dwellings to minimum rental standards".

Jaye lives in Block A, in an apartment under Clúid Housing (an approved housing body through Waterford City and County Council) however, according to Ms. Gallagher, the housing body only has other apartments available in the same complex as she is already in.

Waterford Council has full ownership over Block C, where another council tenant requested to be relocated due to similar issues experienced by Jaye as covered by WLR last year.

Waterford Council also confirmed to WLR that they do not comment on individual cases.

They also confirmed that "Surveys have been conducted to assess the roof structure and investigate potential water ingress from the roof (In Block C) and a plan is currently being developed to address any necessary improvement works to the building.

"Some of the issues identified are complex and require input from external specialists to ensure they are resolved effectively."
