Waterford has one of the shortest wait times in Ireland between booking and sitting your driving test.
However, according to figures released by the Road Safety Authortiy (RSA) under the Freedom of Information Act to Newstalk, learner drivers are facing waiting times of up to seven months in some places.
19 centres around the country have waiting lists of over 12 weeks.
In total, nearly 46,500 people are waiting to sit their driving test - 33,000 have received no appointment at all, while almost 14,000 have appointments scheduled for the coming weeks.
There's a backlog of 31 weeks in Killester, Dublin, 25 weeks in Drogheda, Louth, and 18 weeks in Deansgrange/Dún Laoighaire in South Dublin.
In Waterford, there are a total of 2,795 people on the waiting list.
Of those, 372 are scheduled (test date has been issued), 500 are waiting (eligible applicants who will be invited once a slot becomes available), 1,211 are paused (applicants who have been issued with an invitation to book a test but who have not used it within 10 days), and 712 have been deemed not eligible (they do not meet the criteria, usually because their learner permit is less than 6 months old or they have not completed the Essential Driver Training).
The centre in Kilrush is the only one in the country with a shorter wait time for a driving test than Waterford, at three weeks.
One other centre has a wait time of four weeks and that is Mallow.
