A number of vigils will be held around Waterford in the coming days for people to pay their respects to Ashling Murphy.
The Offaly woman was fatally assaulted at around 4pm on Wednesday, January 12th as she was out jogging along the banks of the Grand Canal at Cappincur in Tullamore.
Ashling Murphy, who is in her early 20s, was a primary school teacher in Durrow National School and her death has sent shockwaves across Waterford and the whole country.
Many people have been paying their respects on social media but several vigils are also being organised across the city and county.
On Friday, January 14th, a vigil will take place in The People's Park at 6pm at the Bandstand, where local traditional musicians will perform to commemorate Ashling.
Another vigil in memory of Ashling Murphy has been organised for 4pm on Saturday, January 15th. People will gather at The Waterford Greenway at Carriganore to light candles and share a moment of silence.
Ashling Murphy was murdered out for a run on her own at 4pm yesterday in broad daylight. In solidarity to Ashling and show support to all women who run/walk on their own,I want to organise a run/walk from Carriganore along the Greenway at 4pm Saturday All welcome @wlr @damienwlr
