Planning permission for a new apartment block at Viewmount House has been denied, with strong opposition to the plan from locals.
The application was first lodged by Holmacre Investment Limited on the 9th of May this year.
They were looking for permission to build a two-storey residential block of eight two-bedroom units at the back of Viewmount House, which is a protected structure.
Residents in the area raised concerns over the proposals and over 80 residents attended a public meeting to voice their opposition to it.
A submission to the council's planning department by the Viewmount Residents' Association said they objected to the "size, scale and positioning of this development."
They highlighted that it would massively impinge "on the integrity of public open space and tennis courts," among other issues.
Theirs was one of tens of submissions received.
The application has since been refused.
