A new Urban Greenway from Tramore to Waterford is one of three new active travel corridors planned for Waterford City.
Among the plans, is a proposed new cycle lane on the Cork Road, from Whitfield Hospital to The Mall in Waterford City.
Another lane is planned on the Inner Ring Road, from Ashe Road to Passage Road, cutting across the Cork Road at King’s Meadow Roundabout.
The third development is a walking and cycling route called ‘The Tramore-Waterford Urban Greenway’.
Differing from traditional Greenways, Urban Greenways are implemented onto an existing road, as opposed to disused railway lines or in traffic-free zones.
Under the plans, barriers would be installed, separating cyclists and motorists.
The Inner Ring Road route is the furthest advanced currently, and has preliminary designs drawn, as does the Cork Road development.
Planning processes and public consultations will take place next year, with plans to be on-site in early 2025.
