There are currently 39 people hospitalised with Covid-19 at University Hospital Waterford.
The figure has risen in the past week, with 1,585 people hospitalised nationally with the virus as of 8pm last night.
There are no ICU patients on site at UHW, but there are 52 people receiving intensive care across twenty hospitals nationwide.
It comes as the hospital has released another media statement this morning appealing to the public not to present at the hospital unless in the case of a genuine emergency.
"University Hospital Waterford is experiencing an exceptionally high level of emergency presentations and admissions over the past number of weeks.
Management at the hospital is asking members of the public to only attend in the case of a genuine emergency, advising that, where possible, a GP should be consulted in the first instance. We are asking people to think about all their care and treatment options and keep our ED services for the patients who need them most.
The public is advised that there may be long delays as staff makes every effort to prioritise those patients requiring immediate treatment and management.
Patient care is paramount in UHW and management at UHW apologises for any long wait times experienced due to the significant volume of persons presenting to the Emergency Department."
Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation this morning show that there are currently six patients on trolleys at the emergency department at University Hospital Waterford.
497 people are waiting on a bed nationally, 66 of which are at University Hospital Limerick.
