Tramore Library will be in receipt of €225,859 under the new 'My Open Library' initiative being rolled out by the Minister for Rural and Community Development.
The new initiative by Heather Humphreys TD means that people will be able to access their local libraries outside their normal opening hours.
The operating hours under the initiative are 8am - 10pm seven days a week. 29 libraries across the country are already involved in the 'My Open Library' scheme.
“Supporting our libraries is a key priority of mine as Minister for Rural and Community Development. They provide such essential services to people, both young and old, and this funding will give so many more people greater access to their local branch," Minister Humphreys said.
Over €3 million was provided in funding for the purpose of investing in 46 libraries nationally.
€2.2 million was delegated to providing the Open Library initiative to a further 17 branches, while the remaining money will be used to enhance the equipment in the 29 participating libraries.
Waterford's Minister for Mental Health and Older people, Mary Butler, welcomes the initiative.
“I am so encouraged to see this initiative rolled out to Tramore. People of all ages, from students to older people, will now have ample opportunity to avail of the many valuable facilities on offer at the library," she said.
Two libraries in Waterford are already part of the scheme and have been awarded funding to improve their services.
€52, 672 has been allocated to Dungarvan Library, while Lismore Library has been awarded €33,379.
