A local Councillor has described the traffic situation outside a County Waterford school as 'bedlam'.

Independent Councillor Declan Clune raised the matter at the most recent Comeragh district meeting of Waterford City and County Council.

The Portlaw Councillor has received concerns in particular around Kilmacthomas Primary School.

Cllr Clune stated there are "major concerns around safety for children."

"Inadvertently, parents, guardians, carers park on the opposite side of the road which obviously narrows the carriageway. There's traffic coming with speed from the outside of Kilmacthomas," he said.

Kilmacthomas Primary was not the only school named at the meeting.

Cllr Clune says the Principal of Fews National School has reached out to raise concerns regarding sight lines and traffic speed.

"The location of the school is very blind for any traffic coming down the hill and traffic seems to be speeding coming up the hill as well," he added.

Concerns were expressed recently in Waterford city over safety outside Scoil Lorcain in St John's Park following a road traffic incident.
