Fáilte Ireland's Tourist Information Office in Waterford is expected to reopen for five months during peak season.
A number of Cllrs debated and discussed the decision at Thursday's plenary meeting of the local authority.
Waterford Council is currently in discussions with Fáilte Ireland regarding moving the Tourist Information Office to the Museum of Treasures.
The first was Cllr Donal Barry, who asked Director of Services Michael Quinn why the office would move from its original location on the quay.
Mr. Quinn who is the head of Economic Development with Waterford Council said that they would hope the service will be extended past the 12 months.
"We would like to continue a year-long service and we are in discussion with Fáilte Ireland in relation to this at present.
"The reason we put to them that such a service would be able to operate is that we could put it into the Medieval museum," Mr Quinn said.
Changing habits
Last summer, Fáilte Ireland announced that their office on the Quay in Waterford city would close after they conducted a survey of the number of 'domestic visitors using the office'.
At the time, they issued a statement saying the reason for the closure was due to 'low projected footfall', and that 'the nature of the tourism industry contributed to the closure of Fáilte Ireland's full-time Tourist Office in Waterford city'.
Director of Economic Development with Waterford Council Michael Quinn said."Fáilte Ireland conducted a review, and their logic was that the level of footfall that they're getting is decreasing.
"Most people now use their phone, if you arrive somewhere you go on your phone and search what to do before you leave your house and so the nature of the tourism advisory industry has changed dramatically," he said.
