People all over Waterford will take part in the global phenomenon that is Darkness Into Light.
Walks begin from 4am tomorrow (Saturday) for the annual event in aid of Pieta House.
The biggest walk locally takes place in Waterford City, with people gathering from 4am at the RSC on the Cork Road, travelling through the City along the Quay, and back onto the Cork Road where it will finish at the RSC with refreshments for participants.
WLR will broadcast live from the event.
A DIL Walk will also take place in Dungarvan, beginning from St Augustine's College at 4.15am.
In Portlaw, a walk will commence at 5am from Clodagh House, taking in a looped walk around the town.
In Tramore, people will gather at Glór na Mara School at 5am, passing the GAA pitch, down Branch Road and finishing on The Prom for sunrise.
About Darkness into Light
The first DIL took place in The Phoenix Park in Dublin in 2009 and the movement has continued to grow, with hundreds of thousands of participants annually.
The aim of the walk is to provide an opportunity for people to connect with their local community and to bring hope to people who have been impacted by suicide.
Since Darkness Into Light began, the event has raised around €29 million for Pieta House, which offers a 24/7 helpline open for people in crisis, free of charge.
There are now international Darkness Into Light events from Seoul to Spain, New Zealand and The Netherlands.
About Pieta House
Pieta was founded in Dublin in 2006.
It was established to provide free, accessible one-to-one counselling to people suffering from suicidal ideation, engaging in self-harm or to those bereaved by suicide.
The charity has a number of centres in Ireland, including at The Waterside in Waterford.
