Be A Superhero And Help The Crystal County Sparkle
Being a superhero is about more than just wearing capes and fighting baddies, sometimes the biggest change happens when we all come together and do something small to help our planet. So we're teaming up with Mr Rubbish for the Big Summer Sweep Up!
When you're out and about enjoying Waterford’s beaches, parks or the countryside, make sure to bring home all your rubbish and recycle as much of it as you can. Rubbish that gets into our oceans and wild spaces can kill wildlife, pollute waterways and reduce air quality.
How You Can Get Involved
We want you to be a superhero and practice the Power Of Three. Every time you are out and about, pick up three pieces of rubbish and bin or recycle them.
If half the population of Waterford went out three times a week and picked up their rubbish, plus three other pieces of rubbish, that would be 522,792 pieces of rubbish taken from our beautiful county in just one week!
Some Extra Tips
Here are some extra small superhero tips that you can use daily to help clean up Waterford.
- Try to reuse jars, and containers instead of buying new or disposable containers.
- Reduce food waste by only buying what you need. Leftover rice can be fried with egg and veggies to make a delicious fried rice.
- Try reduce your single use plastic by using a reusable water bottle and bringing cutlery with you, to avoid having to use plastic knives and forks.
- Try opt for products with no packaging when possible such as loose fruit and veg.
- You can reduce air pollution in our beautiful county by walking, cycling or using public transport.
