1. Waterford Residential Care Centre officially opens

The Waterford Residential Care Centre was officially opened this morning by Waterford TD and Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler. Construction of the €25.4 m Waterford Residential Care Centre project began in early 2018 on a site adjacent to St. Patrick’s Hospital and was completed last year.

2. Waterford rent increases highest in the country

There were just seven properties available to rent in Waterford city on August 1st, according to the latest report from Daft.ie. The poor supply has seen a huge jump in rental costs in the city and county. In Waterford City, rents have risen by 11.9% in the last year and the average rent is now €1,136.

3. Waterford solicitor hits out at 'fraudulent' letters using his name

A Waterford solicitor has hit out at anti-mask campaigners who have circulated a fake letter to local shops, restaurants and pubs using his name. Kenneth Cunningham of Newell, Gillen and Cunningham solicitors on South Parade in the city, says neither he nor his firm have anything to do with the "poorly constructed and badly photocopied" letters that have gone to dozens of Waterford businesses.

4. Significant funding boost for Garter Lane

Garter Lane has received a significant funding boost as it is due to receive €196,857 under the Cultural Capital Scheme. The funding comes under Stream B of the Cultural Capital Scheme 2019-2022, as a very significant investment in the Cultural Quarter and one which will go a long way to assisting with the renovation of number 5 O’Connell Street (Barker House).

5. Jamie Barron named GPA Hurler of the Month

Waterford and Fourmilewater midfielder Jamie Barron has been named as the PWC GAA/GPA Player of the Month for July. The three-time All-Star was at his brilliant best in wins over Galway and Tipperary for the Deise, while also having an influence off the bench in their qualifier victory over Laois.

6. Party on Portland Row for Harrington

Olympic gold medalist Kellie Harrington arrived home to Dublin this afternoon to a glistening welcome. Travelling with Bronze winning boxer Aidan Walsh, who is on crutches, Harrington gave a press conference at Dublin Airport saying "Someone said there would be snacks" before travelling to Portland Road, where she is from, to be welcomed by thousands of friends and neighbours.
