Plans are afoot to breathe new life into a former Garda station in a County Waterford village.
Jim Thompson, owner of Woodhouse Estate, has received planning permission to develop a café in Stradbally.
Speaking to WLR News at his estate, Jim outlined his plans for the building which is located in the village's Square.
"The Garda station dates back to the 18th century," he explained.
"We applied for planning permission for the downstairs to become a tearoom or coffee shop and we have got that permission. We only have the permission with about a month or so we haven't done anything yet."
He believes such a facility will fill a gap in the village and provide an important service.
"If people want to get together for tea or refreshments during the day there really isn't anywhere - expect the pubs which are more for evening socialising."
Jim and his wife Sally have integrated themselves within the local community and Jim says this was a key aim for the couple when they purchase the estate.
"I think when we came here the people were curious and maybe a little bit suspicious about us newcomers. For us, it was very important to get to know the local people."
