The Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland say measures proposed under the Public Health Alcohol Bill to restrict advertising will effectively ban sponsorship and could have a negative impact on events such as Waterford Spraoi.

Director of the Waterford Spraoi Festival, T.V. Honan says the proposals contained in the Bill may have damaging, if unintended, consequences for the arts.

He says in dealing with the big issue, the small festival will get clobbered and he has asked legislators to look carefully at the legislation.
