A special show will broadcast on WLR this evening (Wednesday, March 30th), aimed at providing information for Ukrainian refugees in Waterford.
More than 100 have already arrived here and the show will provide updates and information from charities.
Bogdan Chowse, who has lived in Waterford for a number of years, and who is helping with efforts on the ground here, will feature this evening.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Joe Kelly, will also provide information regarding the council and other organisations' activities.
Waterford Integration Services have a long history of dealing with refugees and are among the groups that will feature on this evening's show.
Anne Nolan says they're preparing to provide psychological support, as much as anything else.
She says, "In the longer term, we expect that there will be a need for psycho-social supports in the weeks to come; supporting those with Post Traumatic symptoms, especially the children that have come in.
"We are expecting sizeable numbers to come into the country and probably in the region of 3,000 to arrive in Waterford City and County."
When it comes to potential language barriers, Waterford/Wexford Education and Training Board have now begun providing English classes for refugees.
And Anne Nolan says language services like that will be hugely important:
"Some of the younger people have some English but other people then are speaking Russian or they are speaking Ukrainian so, we've also put out a call for translators in the community to come and support and offer assistance there as well, until people have a functional level of language.
"Obviously, the children that are going to be registered in schools will benefit from actually being in schools, so that will help as well."
You can tune into this special show after the main evening news at 6pm on WLR.
