There are a record number of people employed in the South East.
That's according to the newly-published 2022 Economic Monitor for the region.
As it stands, unemployment here has fallen to 3.8% - lower than the national average.
GDP is also up 21%.
Senior Lecturer in Accounting at SETU, John Casey, is a co-author of the report.
"It doesn't happen that often that the regions tend to do better than the national average,"
He's also told Déise Today a number of projects are contributing to the positive outlook.
"All of these are projects that have been in the ether for decades and yet it's as if a perfect storm now has come together," he said.
Those he is referring to include the North Quays, SETU and the Waterford Crystal Site, and Waterford Airport's new runway extension.
John says they could be "transformative for the city and for the region itself."
"The number of people in employment is a key indicator as to how good an economy is performing, the more people you have working, literally, the better," he said.
