The installation of new solar-powered bins in Waterford City is being welcomed.
Six of them were put in around the city centre on Friday, with five more bins set to be installed in the People's Park.
The solar bins will be compact the rubbish within them, meaning they will have to be emptied less frequently.
Local Cllr Frank Quinlan says there are more set to go elsewhere.
"Five more are ready to be installed in the People's Park in the city to replace the old grey bins that can't cope with the rubbish, or the volume of people using them.
"Another issue was the crows who were getting at the bins and people disposing of household rubbish.
Fantastic to see the new solar powered larger bins appearing around #waterfordcitycentre Thanks to the Director of Services and Environment for the quick implementation of them and the cleansing staff for their hard work . @WaterfordCounci @wlrfm pic.twitter.com/J8sUP0pzap

"These particular bins are rechargeable, have smaller openings and can cope with a lot more rubbish," Frank says.
The five additional bins in the park are expected to be installed in the coming weeks.
