SEMRA tend to injured walker at Coumshingaun Lake

The South East Mountain Rescue Association conducted a rescue operation at Coumshingaun Lake yesterday, having received reports of an injured worker.

SEMRA was tasked by An Garda Síochána to an incident at approximately 1:30 pm after a walker fell and suffered a lower leg injury while descending from the lake.

Gardai were first on scene at 14:15, with SEMRAs' first hill party departing from Kilclooney Woods car park at 14:30 and the National Ambulance Service (NAS) arrived on scene shortly afterwards.

SEMRA members were with the casualty and providing initial care at 14:50 as other members started to arrive.

The following hill parties brought essential medical equipment and stretchers to the casualty site. The casualty was cold and in pain.

CG Helicopter Rescue 117 was on the scene but had to stand down due to difficult weather conditions.

After initial treatment, the casualty was stretchered down off of the hill as darkness fell and handed over to the NAS crew shortly after 17:30.

All members were off the hill by 17:40 and the casualty was wished a speedy recovery.
